I am a web designer & a photographer & a writer. Say hello.
Words & wanderlust for armchair travelers. This labor of love includes a turbo–powered submission system, a large text version and a mobile site.
Subpage: the messy desk of a writer and traveler.
Logo detail, featuring MVB Solano Gothic and Chank’s Chippewa Falls script.
Typography: I lost track of the number of typefaces used in the details of this project.
Find the care homes that care the most. This site features a custom search engine for finding care facilities in the UK. I worked with a team scattered around the globe and lead the design & front end development.
The Sign In or Create an Account page. The site’s demographic required an extra emphasis on legibility.
Featuring the gorgeous Unit Rounded Bold & Unit Rounded Black typefaces.
The only clear instructions I received for this site were, “Just make it punk rock.”
For the portfolio page, I brushed all the background imagery to the bottom of the page to make room for the slides – the metaphorical clearing of the desk when the work is finished.
The visual design quite literally mirrors the artist’s messy studio environment as well as her influences.
Two artists with one public face. This site splits into dark and light versions – dark for Catarina who creates lamps, light for P–O who shows his sculptures and prints in stark gallery spaces.
As an exercise in madness, the design incorporates a fixed bottom navigation that works in Internet Explorer 6.
For both artists, part of my job was to keep everything out of the way of their work.
P–O’s light, gallery–like space reverses the contrast of Catarina’s page layout.
This wasn't an obvious choice, but the humanist quality of ITC Johnston suits the couple well.
A colorful site for a colorful space. I wanted to make a mall site that avoided most of the usual, somewhat heavy–handed trends in shopping center sites. This site features lots of nice backend details for the client, such as a dynamic coupon creator.
The entertainment subpage.
Typefaces: Scala and Scala Sans.
Five artists in Uppsala, Sweden form the cooperative powerhouse known as haka (with a lowercase h).
Each individual’s page contains hidden complexity. Multiple database queries pull an array of content into one neat and simple package.
Text content detail on the artist page.
Portfolio detail on the artist page.
Sonicfox is an energetic production company located in Prague. We created a heavily illustrated retro look for their startup site.
One of the director subpages.
Logo and background detail.
Frostwriting is a literary journal originally associated with the University of Gävle, Sweden.
Although built on the same platform as Literary Bohemian, the magazine’s larger editorial team required a different, more collaborative way of building issues online. This problem was neatly solved with the help of ExpressionEngine, my CMS of choice.
Main text and footer detail.
Anna–Karin is a textile artist well–known for her hand–decorated fabrics.
The products index page. At this time I was working solo and doing everything required to complete my web projects, which is this case included site photography.
Retailer listings page.
The site features Mark Simonson’s lovely Coquette typeface.
Saratoga Builders and Saratoga Showcase of Homes needed twin sites, obviously related yet decidedly individual.
To help connect the sites I repeated the typography and basic background graphics. Working with the Gotham Rounded type family is pure pleasure.
The second site of the pair needed a more lush treatment, one that mirrored the architectural styles represented within: ornaments, warm colors, wood and panels.
The navigation bar and blueprint pattern from Saratoga Builders Associations is repeated here.
Redesign for DCG Development Co., coming soon.
